Why am I asked for my mobile phone number during the registration process? How secure is access to my contacts?

With WOIZZER your mobile phone number serves as your login. This allows your profile to be easily transferred to another device. You will also be informed when your friends sign up for WOIZZER so that you can send them free WOIZZES in the future.

Access to your contacts and the understandable fear of data misuse:

We respect the wishes and concerns of our community, which is why in Version 2.0 we have not only made it easier to link contacts, but also applied for a patent for an encryption process that will make it impossible for both third parties and WOIZZER to read out phone numbers stored in your contacts.

In case you are interested in the technical details behind this:

During registration you will be asked for your phone number, which we will verify using a text message code. During this process your phone number and the phone numbers stored in your contacts will be encrypted using a hash function. This form of encryption cannot be reversed, meaning that the hash code cannot provide any information about the code's original meaning (for further information about this see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hash_function). If identical content is encrypted twice, the same hash code will be created each time. We use this feature for improved contact management at WOIZZER.

An example to clarify this process:

Your friend Alexander's phone number is 1234567. Encryption results in the hash code 20EABE5D64B0E216796E834F52D61FD0B70332FC. We save this code and NOT his actual phone number in our database. If your friend Alexander registers for WOIZZER, he will also be asked for his phone number. He enters 1234567, thus once again generating a hash code, which is also 20EABE5D64B0E216796E834F52D61FD0B70332FC. We also save this code in our database. Now the system notices that there are matching codes and suggests your friend as a contact.
